Egypt Claims Title Once Again , 15th February 2008

The mighty soccer power of Africa, Egypt with all valors has once again become able to win the  African Nations Cup defeating Cameroon in the final by the means of a solitary goal. The goal was scored at 13 minutes from time by Mohamed Aboutrika. It is to be noted, that by this very victory Egypt has become able to extend to six their record number of titles against Cameroon, the champions of four times. However, it should also be kept in concern that this victory has also made Egypt only the third team to defend the title successfully. The previous records are also with Egypt who touched the pinnacle of glory in 1959 and Cameroon in 2002.

Anyone who witnessed the match must affirm that it was indeed a tough contest in which the two contending teams played their best. Mohamed Aboutrika, the star of the Egyptian team in the hard-hitting match applied the finishing touch to a square pass from Mohamed Zidan, after the striker was able to have the possession from the veteran leader of Cameroon, Rigobert Song on the periphery of the penalty area in the 77th minute. What does this score almost at the end of the match signify? It denotes that the all-important game was the perfect reflection of a bruising battle between the African soccer superpowers, who had met in their opening group match resulting into the victory of Egypt by 4-2.  At the same time it must be accepted that throughout the match Egypt had better opportunities of scoring, but at each and every time was thwarted by the Cameroon goalkeeper Idriss Carlos Kameni.
What was also perceived, Cameroon gambled on the fitness of midfielder Alexandre Song, but he suffered a thigh injury in the semi-final of the tournament and could not train before the game. He had a last fitness test before being included in the starting line-up but limped off after just 16 minutes.
