Obama Faces Stiff Challenge in Election , 18th February 2008

Morning shows the day. This age old proverb is definitely true, but often it fails to show the  right picture. Well, you may disagree, but if one has to go by the example of Barack Obama, he or she may think again. Now you may ask why is this so? It is since the Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, making into front-runner status following a week of eight straight wins, is facing a stiff challenge in the avatar of a new rival, John McCain, the credible GOP candidate. In what could be a preview of the general election, the two candidaes were found to exchange arguments over the heated subject of Iraq and the economy, sure to be key issues in November.
It was seen at the commencement that McCain criticized with all might the Democrats for speaking in "platitudes" about Iraq. In his own words, "The Democrats wanted to leave and set a date for withdrawal and said we could never succeed militarily. Look at the record ... not the rhetoric, not the platitudes, but the principles and the philosophy." In this regard McCain afterwards was perceived to aim directly at Obama for lacking specifics. On these he went on saying, "I respect him and the campaign he has run. But there is going to be time when we have to get into specifics, and I have heard not every speech he has given obviously, but they are singularly lacking in specifics, and that's when as the campaign moves forward, we will be portraying very stark differences."
To this Obama returing the fire at the time of campaigning in Wisconsin said, "It's clear he knows who his opponent's going to be, and I'm looking forward to a great debate on the issues with John McCain." He also criticized the stance of John McCain on war and said, "We can't keep on spending money that we don't have on a war that should have never been fought and should have never been authorized."

Well, whatever it is, the war of words reveal that in spite of eight straight primary and caucus wins, the coming days are going to be tough for Obama.
