Mumbai, the financial capital of the nation returns to normal life once again with people going about their businesses as usual after a spate of violence in the last week, following the arrest of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray.
It has been found that all walks of social life and echelons have started once again their daily works upholding the banner of the great cosmopolitan culture of Mumbai. Kindergartens, schools and colleges opened as usual, the ubiquitous Mumbai dabbawallahs were also visible in the roads and at various railway stations going about their usual everyday jobs. While on the other hand the regular office-goers were seen to hurry to their places of work with the restoration of normalcy in the city. All types of public transports including trains and public buses, taxis and auto-rickshaws were found to create the usual traffic snarls on the highways and the four arterial roads as well the link roads around the city.
What is more found is that the violence that hampered the cultural and ethnic milieu of the city and the rest of Maharashtra following the arrest of the MNS chief calmed down in the same speed with the release of the new boss and self-claimed custodian of the city on bail. It should be noted that both of Raj Thackeray and Samajwadi Party leader Abu Asim Azmi were arrested on charges of inciting ethnic hatred and bailed out soon after.
But it should not be forgotten that the sudden violence started by the rowdy mobs termed as the supporters of MNS smashed the liberal stance of the city forever. Several state run buses, taxis and auto-rickshaws were burnt and pelted with stones by MNS supporters. The worst affected in the state were Pune, Nashik, Aurangabad, Solapur and Manmad, with one person being killed in Nashik.
